Hampshire
This historic limestone Oast House in Hampshire situated on top of a steep hill required a design that took control of the slope and used it to its advantage.
Using the local limestone to create a striking retaining wall two terrace levels are created to make several intimate social areas that make the most of the natural aspect of the site, which are enclosed by herbaceous perennials and grasses.
The shrubbery is surrounded by beech hedging that fragments as you make your way through it, allowing you small glimpses of the next garden room. The path weaves through small trees, roses, flowering and evergreen shrubs towards the mature beech trees at the end of the garden. A tranquil place to get lost in.
A long reflective pool of water, which is crossed with fragmented rows of planting, guides one out through the garden linking you to the meadow, pond, parkland and the South Downs beyond.
