Totteridge Common

A new renovated Queen House style house on the outskirts of London has a long sloping garden with majestic trees that lead down towards common land.

The principle challange here was how narrow the site is and how it is overlooked by neighbours. The densely vegetated boundries and abundant planting throughout the garden address this and lead you further down the garden to areas of interest and seclusion.

A contemporary parterre frames the front of the house with two pools of water either side of the house reflecting the distinctive natural ponds found in the area. An expansive terrace directs into the garden where generous plantings of perrenials and native trees leads you down.

The mown grass path the expands and contracts in size leads you down towards the bottom of the garden Two tall curved beech hedges create intimate places to retreat to and relax. Large clipped forms of yew are scarcely dotted through out the meadows grasses create an intresting sense of scale when surrounded but the mature beech and oak trees.
